MANAGING YOURSELF:
OFFICE MANAGEMENT AND OPERATION MANAGEMENT

An energizing module on this week was Operation Management and Office Management which took place from 18th May – 21st May 2009. Each module was conducted in two days period.

In Operation Management, we had been taught on effectiveness and efficiency in Operation Management. The module had stressed more on safety, health and environment quality. Philosophy of 5S which is the standard ethic in corporate companies also had been focused on. In Operation Management, we also learn about I.S.O (International Organization for Standardization), which is the measurement standard for an effective and efficient company. The requirement for I.S.O 9001:2008 was Q.M.S (Quality Management System), Management Responsibility, Resource Management, Product Realization and also M.A.I (Measurement, Analysis & Improvement).

For Office Management, the objective is to understand the importance and to identify the key elements of Office Management. The module also describes the efficient working and the acceptable behavior of an office worker. As one of the activity, we need to interview every department in the hotel to get the information about the hierarchy, job description and also the job flow that they need to go through in their work routine. This activity had expose the participants to know and to understand how a process happened, number of people involve and also the time duration that they need to go through.

As a conclusion, Office Management and Operation Management are the important aspect in leading one company to become more effective and efficient.

ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE PERFORMANCE AT WORK

Friday, 22nd May 2009, General Manager of Honda Sdn Bhd, Mr Azhar Bin Ab Wahab delivered his talk entitled ‘Achieving Excellence Performance at Work: Secret of Success’ which was organized by Valkyrie Sdn Bhd. The speaker emphasizes on how to work effectively, factors affecting performance at workplace and the secret of operational excellence.
Mr Azhar also shared about his knowledge and exciting experiences working at Proton and Honda. He also explained about the criteria to become a successful executive. According to Mr Azhar, to become a successful executive we must know how to improve the work process and not only seeking the result. He also added that an executives need to be creative in making decisions.
Furthermore, Mr Azhar also explained about different types of organizations, how to make a good resume and also tips to attend interview. The talk stopped at 10.30 am for tea break and continued again at 11.00 for the second part of the talk. After taking a few questions, Mr Azhar ended his talk at 12.15 pm and concluded that the main reason humans were created is to be a ‘khalifa’ on earth and send the message of Allah S.W.T.


WHAT WOULD YOU DO AFTER THIS:
I WISH I KNOW

On 21st May 2009, a Yassin and an Islamic Talk at surau for GEMS participants was organized by Marche Management Company. The speech was given by Ustaz Shariful Anam Bin Hj Arshad with the title of “I Wish I know”.

The talk tells us about the important to say ‘Alhamdulillah’in our daily life when doing any task. ’Alhamdulillah’ which means praise to Allah, Lord of universe. Suppose it has to be practice by all muslims in daily life. Besides that, as a muslim we should practice to recite ‘doa’ when doing any daily task. For example, we recite ‘doa’ before eat and going out from toilet.

Ustaz Shariful also said that some of Muslim people who are always depends their life based on luck. This is what happening in our muslim society, this where the purpose of ‘doa’ take place instead of depend life based on luck only. There are a lots of ‘doa’ that can be practice into our daily life. ’Doa’ that easily be granted by Allah when a person or group of people in ‘musafir’, ’doa’ by our mother and also ‘doa’ by our own.

On top of that, Ustaz Shariful also said as Muslim we should always recite ‘Selawat’ for our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. The purpose of ‘Selawat’ are to praise our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. and gained bless from Allah S.W.T. In the mean time, he also told us the story of Prophet Yunus when he had been thrown out from a ship because his name has been voted 3 times among the other members in the ship. He has been eaten by a big fish called ‘Nun’. As Allah S.W.T bless, Prophet Yunus still alive inside the fish. During Prophet Yunus inside the fish, he recites a ‘doa’ to ask from Allah S.W.T to let him out from the fish. Allah S.W.T granted his ‘doa’ and he has been vomited out by the fish at seashore.

Finally, Ustaz Shariful said that there are 6666 sentences inside Al-Quran. By right some of Muslim are forgetting about it or in other words didn’t know about it. Muslim people that practice recite Al-Quran in their daily life will be avert from doing a sins. Besides that when recite Al-Quran, it will given a peaceful of mind and soul. As a Muslim we need to practice to read and recite Al-Quran in our daily life.

GEMS SPORT EVENT - CLOSING CEREMONY

On 23rd May 2009, Daun Lebar Corporation has organized Sport Closing Ceremony at the main field,Desaru Golden Beach Hotel. The program started at 7.30 a.m. with j-robic exercise to raise the spirit of the participants. In this event, the organizer has prepared several games for telematch. Among the games were transformer foot, dragonball war, chicken run, amazing race and tug of war. These games bring a lot of excitement and all companies have showed their enthusiasm as well as team spirit in competing one another.

On that day, the closing ceremony were attended by Mr. Hairuddin, academician from Bandar Penawar Sport School, Mr. Azahari B. Ahmad, Site Manager DGB01 and Colonel Jamal as the guest of honour. As a reward, the winners were given a hamper and trophy for their effort to win these games. At the end, the objectives of this program has achieved as it able to strengthen the relationship among participants. At 12.30 p.m., the ceremony was ended successfully.
